Father Longenecker I used to find interesting and helpful. But lately, I’m perplexed. He wrote this article about Pope Francis’ interview on the plane enroute from the Philippines. Father loves the spontaneity of Pope Francis and believes that these interviews are really helpful. I read the interview and tried really hard to understand what Pope Francis was saying. This is the interview where I raised the problem with Pope Francis’ disbelief in the providence of God and the blessing that children are. It’s not incoherent all the time but it is Francis the Muddle-Headed. Take a read but maybe take an aspirin first.
I read his interview and my head hurt trying to make sense out of the muddle. To imagine what it must have been like to listen to it and try to understand makes my head hurt even more. He reveals himself to be a half-wit, throws around “big” words to make it sound like he’s intelligent, utters a coherent phrase here and there, and some people think he’s “profound”. He speaks off-the-cuff what he believes and insults Faithful actually practicing Catholics to get the praise of the world, and reveals how little he actually believes of Catholicism. And it’s every time he opens his mouth spontaneously. This is disastrous for a pope.
Thankfully, thinking, practicing Real Catholics see right through this, and see and hear it for what it is. It’s distressing, stupid, heretical, pandering, near total nonsense, and not what the Church needs, and he doesn’t do the world’s unfaithful or lukewarm Catholics any service and might lead them to lose their salvation. That should be what governs any analysis of what he utters.
I took heart when I saw the comments at the end from mostly people taking Father to task. They get it.

Finally, the pope’s airplane interviews make for terrific, heartwarming reading for the people of God. If you really want to understand Pope Francis take time to read these interviews. If you want to share his heart for the poor, his passion for Christ and his love for the church, read these interviews. If you want to catch a glimpse of the missionary spirit that fires this pope, then take time to listen to him on the airplane home.
You won’t be disappointed.
Sorry, Father, but I and other “rabbits” don’t agree.
Please pray that the Holy Spirit will clear the Pope’s head and give him the fullness of the Faith and for the Church to adhere to the Faith.

Yes, Fr. Longenecker seems to have gone off the deep end. So feels a parent who asked the youngest–the sixth–if he could see the parental rabbit ears on her head.
Pope Francis has enlightened the world. While there are people who before they met a Catholic believed they would recognize the Papist by his horns (I met someone with this belief myself), Francis has now enlightened such people to look for rabbit ears instead.

I feel your pain. Have felt the same way since August 2013. My life is easier now that I make a point not to seek out news about him. It’s hard enough that such news is ineluctable in one’s daily online activity. Thanks for your voice, and keep up the good fight.

I used to go out of my way to find his blog but it has been about a year or so since I’ve done that, like you say. Thanks for your vote of confidence for what I’m doing and you also have to keep up the good fight!

Oh, and just to be clear, I didn’t mean that I have been uneasy with Longenecker for over a year, but with, well, the pope who shall not be named. 😉

I misunderstood. Now I see what you meant. I started to get uneasy with the other when he mocked the people for counting and praying Rosaries for him. That was very early on and, unfortunately and sadly, it has just been confirmed more and more. BTW, you’ve done a really good job with your blog and I’ve become a follower.
