New York is my home state. It used to be a great State in these United States, but has ceased to be. The state has 7.3 million Catholics out of a population of 19 million and is the largest religious denomination. Today, the governor is a “c”atholyc, divorced, living with a concubine proudly and publicly, and presents himself for and receives the Blessed Sacrament, openly assisted in this sacrilege by the recently retired Bishop Hubbard, “alleged” to have been an active homosexual (you can read the disgusting details here and here if you can stomach it), who gave him and his public concubine the Eucharist at the Mass to celebrate his election four years ago, and other priests continue to do so when he presents himself for Mass so he can appear to have religion. My guess is that he doesn’t actually go to Mass when the cameras aren’t rolling to show his piety. He has gone full pedal-to-the-metal to make New York the most abortion-friendly state, he has decided recently to have taxpayers foot the bill for sex-change operations, and he led the way and passed the law to allow so-called “gay” marriage in the state. He was just reelected, with great support from fellow “c”atholycs who think he’s swell!
His father, Mario, from whom he learned his rock-solid faith, has just died, on the day his son was to be sworn in for his second term. Maybe that’s meaningful?
Mario and son are from my old neighborhood in Queens, a borough of New York City, so we are connected in that sense. Mario was raised a Catholic and attended Saint John’s University, a Catholic university in New York that is now very much Catholic in name only. Mario became the darling of the Democrat political party because he was one of those politicians who furthered the abortion of millions of babies through taking the “courageous” stance of being “personally” opposed to abortion but not willing to “force” his “beliefs” on others. This was in the 1980s when it was becoming fashionable to hold no objective truths, which has now become known as moral relativism, and which, as we all know, is dragging Western Civilization into its final collapse.
I read today that Mario will have a “private” funeral at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, a Jesuit-run parish (how fitting!) in New York City, on Tuesday. No doubt he will be lauded by Old “Mother” Hubbard, now known as the Emeritus Bishop of Albany, and others, and that his son and his concubine will be given the Eucharist, as will other attending heretics, and allowed to commit grave sacrilege. I also expect that the staunch defender of the Faith and prince of the Church, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, will be there to assure all that Mario is in “Heaven”.
Mario was a public heretic, who participated in and advanced grave evil, and scandalized publicly millions of Catholics. I can only speculate how many were led by his example to die in unrepented mortal sin and ended up in Hell, and how many more are still alive and headed there, including his own family members. Mario had never publicly repented as those who cause public scandal are required to do, and as the Church still teaches they must, even if She no longer actually requires this except for . . . I don’t know who anymore. But teach this, She does, as this excerpt from the Catechism sets forth quite clearly:
Respect for the souls of others: scandal
2284 Scandal is an attitude or behavior which leads another to do evil. The person who gives scandal becomes his neighbor’s tempter. He damages virtue and integrity; he may even draw his brother into spiritual death. Scandal is a grave offense if by deed or omission another is deliberately led into a grave offense.
2285 Scandal takes on a particular gravity by reason of the authority of those who cause it or the weakness of those who are scandalized. It prompted our Lord to utter this curse: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”85 Scandal is grave when given by those who by nature or office are obliged to teach and educate others. Jesus reproaches the scribes and Pharisees on this account: he likens them to wolves in sheep’s clothing.86
2286 Scandal can be provoked by laws or institutions, by fashion or opinion.
Therefore, they are guilty of scandal who establish laws or social structures leading to the decline of morals and the corruption of religious practice, or to “social conditions that, intentionally or not, make Christian conduct and obedience to the Commandments difficult and practically impossible.”87 This is also true of business leaders who make rules encouraging fraud, teachers who provoke their children to anger,88 or manipulators of public opinion who turn it away from moral values.
2287 Anyone who uses the power at his disposal in such a way that it leads others to do wrong becomes guilty of scandal and responsible for the evil that he has directly or indirectly encouraged. “Temptations to sin are sure to come; but woe to him by whom they come!”89
Yet, Mario, and now his son, were never publicly excommunicated by their bishops, as none of these politicians of this ilk are anymore, made to repent publicly, and made to do public penance before being readmitted to full communion. A few hundred years ago, this would have been the case. Today, their priests, bishops and Cardinals canonize them at their funerals and ignore the reality that their souls face as they stand before Jesus. Sadly, this seems to reveal much about their own “faith”.
Mario and his son have furthered the work of the devil and have denied Jesus before others with their “principled” positions. Complicit in this furtherance of evil have been and continue to be prominent leaders of the Church, for more than 30 years in this case. The Catechism passage quoted above also states what fate they too will face.
This is not “nice” talk. This will upset some. Some will have their “feelings” hurt. That is too bad, but the evils they have furthered are even less nice for millions of souls who latched and continue to latch on to this to their own potential loss of salvation. Somebody has to tell it like it is, which ought to be those ordained and charged with teaching the Truth. Since they won’t, then we must. And this is not just one man’s opinion. This is the Truth.
Mario had plenty of years to repent publicly, and he could have had the press come to him at any time to do so, where he could have just said that he had been wrong about his policies that furthered the abortion of millions of children. He could have then quietly gone to confession, been absolved and done his penance. But that never happened.
Have a “nice” trip, Mario. Now, you’ll find out how your “principles” stand up in the light of real Truth.
